| Question: |
What is this special tool used for? (A clue, it has something to do with Volvo-Penta 270-280 lower gear cases) |
| Answer: |
It threads on to the top of the vertical drive shaft lifting it up until the pinion gear "pops" off the bottom of the shaft. Due to the taper of both the pinion gear and vertical drive shaft - and the fact that the lock nut holding the pinion gear onto the shaft is torgued to a spec of 118 Ft. Lbs, they are not going to separate without a lot of help...and good luck doing it any other way. |
